A Starving Girl

This is a famous photo taken by Kevin Carter. This photo helped him win the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography in 1994. But this photo also caused his death. All people were angry about that he just stood beside waiting for taking photos. He came under criticism for failing to help the girl. He couldn't bear the pressure and committed suicide just after two month he won the prize.
In the photo, we can see a girl, who is very weak, lies on the ground. She wants to go to a feeding center to get some food, but she has no energy to walk any longer. She even can't stand up. Behind her, a vulture is looking at her. When the girl stops breathing, the predator will eat her body. It's really a terrible scene. Tears come to my eyes every time I see this photo. Look at the starving girl with slim arms and even more slim legs. She is sure to have a struggling life. We all have a happy childhood. We don't need to worry about what to eat because we are under our parents' wings. But what about this girl? The ratio of body and four limbs are imbalance. This shows how hard her life is. She has no food to eat but she will be food of a vulture. It is a shame on humanity. This photo has a big visual impact. Almost everyone are afraid of death. The descolate environment makes this scene more shocking. When death occurs just in front of your face, it will surly inspire your compassion. This photo calls a lot of concerns of children life in Sudan. As a photo, it's really a masterpiee. As a real happening, it makes everyone so sad.

  1. I feel like the photographer being as close as he was to the girl to take this picture should have at least done something about her suffering. How can a human stand so close to another in pain and do nothing but take a picture?

  2. This picture also shocks me.Many significant problems which should be concerned by people can be derived by this picture, such as who makes this terrible case happen? who should save the hungrey girl? If you were a photographer, what will you do at that time, take picture or save the girl? Every question need to be considered.
